The Smart Form Generator in Dapple lets you build a submission form by describing it in plain English. Write a sentence about what you want — the form fields, the dropdown options, the file types you accept — and Dapple builds the form in a few seconds. Find it inside Form Builder → New → New Form. Best used as a starting point, then refined manually.
When should I use the Smart Form Generator?
Starting a brand-new form from scratch and you don't want to drag every field in.
You can describe the form clearly in 2–3 sentences but don't want to spend 30 minutes setting it up.
Building a quick form for testing or for an internal opportunity that doesn't need fine-grained control.
If you need precise control over every field's behaviour from the start, building manually is faster than tweaking generated output.
How to use the Smart Form Generator
Open the project → Form Builder.
Click New → New Form.
Write a description of the form you want — the more specific, the better.
Click Start Generation.
Wait a few seconds while Dapple builds the form.
Review the generated fields and tweak as needed.
What makes a good prompt?
The clearer your description, the better the output. Aim to include:
The kind of submission you're accepting (writing, art, application, demo, etc.).
Any specific fields you want — e.g. 'creator name', 'age dropdown 18–30', 'genre radio with fiction or non-fiction'.
File types you accept and how many uploads.
Any agreement checkboxes you need (terms and conditions, age confirmation).
Steps - describe which form fields go in which step.
Example prompt: 'Create a form that includes the creator's name, a dropdown for age between 18 and 30, a radio select for fiction or non-fiction, a file upload for docs or PDFs, and a checkbox to agree to terms and conditions.'
What does the Generator NOT do?
Conditional logic — add rules manually after generation.
Payment configuration — set prices, tip jars, and add-ons manually after generation.
Brand styling — header image, theme, and colours need to be set in the Design tab.
What to do after generation
Review every generated field — labels, placeholders, required toggles.
Add or remove any fields the Generator missed.
Set up Form Steps if your form is long.
Add conditional logic where useful.
Customise the design — header image, theme, colours.
Preview the form and run a test submission before going Public.
Example
"Create a form that includes artist name, a dropdown for age (between 18-30), a radio select option for genres of either fiction or non-fiction. There needs to be a file upload option for docs or pdf files and a single select box to ask if they agree to our terms and conditions."
Once done, Dapple will generate the form with the requested fields. Once created, you should then go and make tweaks where necessary to the different fields and maybe add some imagery or a header. Here's some more info on how to customise your form. The example description above (with a background image added after) created this in just a few seconds...
