A Manual Access Code is a code you create on a project that a creator must enter before they can access the submission form. It's the simplest way to gate a form — useful for invite-only programmes, private open calls, or anywhere you want to control who can submit.
Setting up your codes
Open the relevant project and select Access Codes from the project navigation tabs.
Here you'll see all codes associated with this project — both Manual and Unique. Use the Manually created only toggle to filter down to just your manual codes.
Select Add Code in the top right corner.
Creating a code
The Create Access Code modal gives you a few options:
Code Enter the code you want to use — letters, numbers, hyphens, and underscores only. If you'd prefer not to create one yourself, select Generate and Dapple will create a random code for you.
Allow multiple uses If this box is unchecked, the code can only be used once. Check it to allow the code to be used any number of times — useful if you're sharing a single code with a group.
Restrict to email Optionally, tie the code to a specific email address. If set, only a creator logged in with that email will be able to use the code. Leave this blank if you want any creator to be able to use it.
Once you're happy with the settings, select Create Code.
How it works for creators
When a creator visits the form link, they'll be prompted to enter an access code before they can proceed.
If the code is valid (and within the allowed number of uses, or matches the restricted email), they'll be taken straight into a draft submission.
If the code is invalid, they'll receive an error message and won't be able to proceed.
Once a creator has successfully entered a code and opened their draft, they won't need to enter it again. If they return to the form link while still signed into their Dapple account, the code will be automatically bypassed and they'll land directly in their draft.
Managing your codes
From the Access Codes tab you can see, at a glance:
The code itself
Its origin (manual or from a submission)
Uses — how many times it's been used vs. how many it's allowed
Restricted to — the email address it's tied to, if applicable
You can also copy or delete any code from the Actions column, and Export CSV to download a full list of codes for this project.
