When submissions start flowing in, reviews can quickly stretch on longer than intended. Setting a clear due date for your review team helps create a sense of urgency and keeps everything moving, without the awkward chasing.
Why setting a review due date matters
A review due date creates clarity and momentum for everyone involved.
It helps you:
Set clear expectations for reviewers
Keep your review process on schedule
Avoid bottlenecks before decisions or announcements
Reduce last-minute stress and follow-ups
Reviewers are often juggling multiple commitments. A visible deadline gives them a concrete target and helps them plan their time accordingly.
How to set up Due Dates
Navigate to the Project where the review panel has been created and select Project Settings > Reviews
Select the Review Panel you'd like to edit.
Select the tab Guidance and Feedback
Find the section Enable Due Date and switch on
Set the time cadence you want. There are two flexible ways to do this:
Set a specific future date
Ideal if you already know when reviews must be completed.Set a number of days from when submissions are sent
Perfect for rolling or ongoing submissions, where timing varies.
Please note: days from review start means from the submission is either manually sent to the review team or an automation is set up to automatically send to the review panel when it reaches that stage.
Once set, the due date is visible to your review team so everyone knows exactly what’s expected. It will show with the remaining days left before they need to complete their feedback.
Best practices for review deadlines
Give reviewers enough time to do thoughtful, high-quality reviews
Align review due dates with your wider publishing or decision timeline
Use day-based deadlines for rolling submissions
Be clear about what happens after the deadline
