Reviews FAQs

Here are some of the most common questions and answers around reviews

Written by Oz Osbaldeston

What is a review in Dapple?

A review is the process of assessing a submission using feedback, scores, statuses, or internal notes. Reviews are completed by users who are part of a review panel and have review permissions.

Who can review submissions?

Only users who are:

  • Added to a review panel

  • Assigned the correct review permissions

  • Part of the team that owns the submission type

If you can’t see a submission, it’s usually a permissions or panel assignment issue.

What is a review panel?

A review panel is a group of reviewers assigned to assess submissions for a specific submission type. Panels help:

  • Distribute workload

  • Ensure consistency

  • Keep reviews organised and fair

A reviewer can be part of multiple panels at once.

What does “In Progress Reviews” mean?

“In Progress Reviews” shows all submissions that:

  • Are assigned to your review panel

  • Are currently active (not completed or closed)

  • Still require action from you as a reviewer

Think of it as your live review to-do list.

What does “Awaiting Feedback” mean?

“Awaiting Feedback” are submissions assigned to your panel that you are yet to open and start working on.

Can multiple reviewers review the same submission?

Yes. Submissions can be reviewed by multiple reviewers within the same panel. Each reviewer’s feedback is saved individually unless you’ve set up a shared or aggregated scoring process.

What is blind review?

Blind review hides selected submission fields (like name, email, or address) from reviewers to reduce unconscious bias.
Admins control this by marking fields as “Hide from reviewers” in the form builder.

Can I save a review and come back later?

Absolutely. Reviews can be saved as drafts. You can:

  • Review in batches

  • Pause mid-review

  • Revisit and edit before final submission

Your saved reviews appear in the In Progress section of your dashboard. Strongly encouraged for sanity and accuracy.

Can I edit a review after submitting it?

This depends on the submission stage and permissions set by the admin. In many cases, edits are allowed until:

  • The submission moves to a final stage

  • Reviews are locked for decisions

If you can’t edit, it’s usually intentional.

How are scores handled?

If scoring is enabled:

  • Each reviewer submits their own score

  • Scores can be averaged or compared later

  • Scores may influence automatic or manual decisions

Scoring rules are defined by the admin, not the reviewer.

What happens when all reviews are completed?

Once reviews are finished:

  • Submissions can be moved to the next stage

  • Decisions (accept, reject, shortlist, etc.) can be made

  • Review data is preserved for transparency and reporting

Nothing is lost or overwritten.

Can I review submissions on my phone or tablet?

Yes. Dapple is fully web-based and works on modern browsers across desktop, tablet, and mobile—though larger screens are recommended for longer reads.

Why can’t I see a submission I was expecting?

Common reasons include:

  • You’re not assigned to the correct review panel

  • The submission is in a stage you don’t have access to

  • The submission type has been unpublished or closed

When in doubt, check with an admin.

Can admins track review progress?

Yes. Admins can see:

  • Who has completed reviews

  • Which submissions are still pending

  • Overall review progress by panel or reviewer

This helps keep timelines on track without nagging (too much).

Is it possible to add another member to a review panel, even if submissions have already been sent to the panel?

Yes! If you have already created a panel of reviewers and have already sent submissions to that panel for feedback, you can still add more members to that review panel. Add the new member following these instructions. When that member signs in to their personal review account, they will see the all previously sent submissions already queued in their Awating Feedback section - there's no need to resend any submissions to the panel.
