How to sort submissions in Dapple

Learn how to sort submissions in Dapple by received date, creator or assignee name, project, stage, file count, score or current review score — from the Sort by menu or the column headers.

Written by Oz Osbaldeston

To sort submissions in Dapple, open the Submissions List or a Stages board, click the sort control above the table (it reads Received – new first by default) and choose a field: Received, Creator or Assignee name, Project, Stage, Files, Score or Current review score. Every list sorts by received date out of the box, so submissions appear in time order. Switch to Current review score to bring the highest-scoring entries from the latest review round to the top, or Files to surface submissions with the most attachments first.

Where is the sort control?

The sort control sits above the submissions table on the right, directly under the Add and More buttons. It shows the active sort as a link — Received – new first on a fresh page — with a sort icon beside it. Click it to open the Sort by menu. Each option has an arrow on the right that opens the direction choice, so you can flip between newest/oldest, A–Z/Z–A or highest/lowest without leaving the menu.

The same control appears on the Submissions List and on Stages, so a sort you rely on in one view works the same way in the other.

What can I sort by?

Sort by

What it does

Useful when

Received

Orders by the date the submission arrived. The default.

Working through submissions in the order they came in, or checking what's just landed.

Creator first name / last name

Alphabetical by the creator's name.

Cross-referencing against a spreadsheet, register or exhibition list.

Assignee first name / last name

Alphabetical by the team member assigned to each submission.

Checking workload across your team, or finding everything assigned to one person in a block.

Project

Groups submissions by project.

Viewing All Teams or several projects at once.

Stage

Groups submissions by their position in the workflow.

Seeing at a glance how many sit at each stage without opening the board.

Files

Orders by the number of attachments.

Your submissions are file-heavy — portfolios, manuscripts, video — and you want the largest or lightest first.

Score

Orders by the submission's overall score.

Ranking across the whole process.

Current review score

Orders by the score from the current review round.

Seeing your highest-scored submissions at the top once a round of reviews is in.

How do I sort by review score?

Sorting by Current review score is the quickest way to see which submissions your Review Panel rated highest in the latest round.

  1. Open the Submissions List or the Stages board.

  2. Click the sort control (Received – new first).

  3. Choose Current review score.

  4. Pick highest first.

The top of the list now shows your strongest submissions from that round, which makes shortlisting a matter of ticking the rows and moving them to the next stage. Use Score instead if you want to rank on the overall score rather than the current round.

How do I sort alphabetically?

Choose Creator first name, Creator last name, Assignee first name or Assignee last name from the Sort by menu, then pick A–Z or Z–A. Last name is usually the better choice when matching against an external list, since that's how most registers are ordered. Sorting by assignee groups each team member's submissions together, so you can see who has the heaviest load before reassigning.

How do I sort by number of files?

Choose Files from the Sort by menu. Submissions with the most attachments move to the top; flip the direction to find submissions with no files at all. This is handy for spotting incomplete entries in a project where attachments are required, or for pacing a review session so the heaviest submissions are tackled first.

Can I sort from the column headers?

Yes. In the list view, most column headers carry a small sort arrow: Files, Progress, Rcvd, Assignee, Creator, Project, Score and Current Review Score. Click a header once to sort by that column, and click it again to flip the direction. The header currently controlling the sort shows a highlighted arrow, and the sort control above the table updates to match, so both routes always agree. The Submission column has no arrow — it holds the ID and activity counts rather than a sortable value.

Column headers are the quicker option when you're already scanning the table and want to reorder on the spot; the Sort by menu is better when you want the direction spelled out or need to reset.

How do I reset the sort?

Open the Sort by menu and click Reset Sort at the bottom. The list returns to Received – new first. Resetting the sort doesn't clear any filters you've applied — sorting and filtering work independently, so you can filter to a stage or tag and then sort within that set.

Best practice

  • Combine sort with Filters: filter to a single stage first, then sort by Current review score to rank only the submissions in play.

  • Sort by Received – old first when you're behind, so the longest-waiting creators are dealt with before the newest arrivals.

  • Sort by Assignee before a team meeting to check the split of work.

  • Sort by Files with the lowest count first to catch submissions missing required attachments.

  • Reset the sort when you're done — a leftover score sort can be confusing to a colleague opening the same list.
