You can change any part of a Review Round in Dapple after it's created, even while reviews are in progress. Open the project's Workflow & Reviews tab, select the Review Round's card on its stage, choose the section you want from the left-hand menu, make your changes and select Save changes. Changes apply straight away. Most edits are safe mid-round, but changing scoring or deadlines affects reviewers who have already started — check the table below before you edit a live round.
How do I open a Review Round's settings in Dapple?
Open your project and select Workflow & Reviews.
Find the stage the Review Round is attached to.
Select the Review Round's card in the stage column and select Edit.
Choose a section from the left-hand menu.
Make your changes and select Save changes.
What can I change in each section?
Section | What you can change |
General | Review Name, the stage the round belongs to, and whether reviewers can decline a review or declare a conflict of interest |
Reviewers | Automatic sending on or off, Chosen reviewers or Share them out, the reviewer pool, and how many reviewers each submission goes to |
Guidance | The instructions reviewers see while they score |
Deadlines | The due date shown to reviewers and how many reviews each submission needs |
Scoring | Scoring type, criteria, Max scores, Weights and vote options |
Notifications | Emails to reviewers and admins |
Stats | Progress only — submissions sent, reviews completed and progress against deadlines |
What happens to reviews already in progress when I edit a round?
Reviewers keep everything they've already entered. What changes depends on the section:
If you change… | What happens | What to do |
Review Name | Reviewers see the new name straight away. | Nothing. |
Guidance | Reviewers see the new version next time they open the Guidance tab. There's no version history. | Message your reviewers about significant changes. |
Due date | Reviewers see the new deadline next time they sign in. | Tell reviewers if the deadline moves earlier. |
Review counts | Submissions are re-checked against the new minimum. Some may complete, or stop being complete. | Check which submissions can now move stage. |
Scoring criteria, Max score or Weight | Weighted totals recalculate immediately. Submitted raw scores stay the same. | Avoid mid-round if you can. If you must, tell reviewers scores are being recalculated. |
Automatic sending | Applies to submissions that reach the stage from then on. | Assign submissions already in the stage yourself. |
Reviewer pool | Applies to submissions sent from then on. | Assign earlier submissions to new reviewers yourself if they need them. |
How do I rename a Review Round or move it to another stage?
Open the round's settings and select General. Change the Review Name, or choose a different in-progress stage, then select Save changes. You can only move a round to an in-progress stage.
How do I turn automatic sending on or off?
Open the round's settings and select Reviewers.
To turn it on: switch on Send automatically when a submission reaches this stage, choose Chosen reviewers or Share them out, and add reviewers to the reviewer pool.
To turn it off: switch the toggle off. The reviewer pool is removed and nothing more is sent automatically. Submissions already sent stay with their reviewers.
Turn it off when you want to take back control of who reviews what — for example, to allocate the remaining entries yourself after a deadline.
How do I add or remove reviewers?
It depends on how the round sends submissions:
Automatic sending on: add or remove people in the reviewer pool from the Reviewers section.
Automatic sending off: there's no pool to edit. Assign or remove reviewers on the submissions themselves, from the submissions list or the Stages board.
How do I archive a Review Round?
Open the round's settings and select Archive at the bottom. The round is removed from the active view, but all review data — scores, votes and comments — is kept and stays available from the project. Archive rather than delete when a round is finished.
Best practice for editing a live Review Round
Finalise scoring before anyone starts. It's the change most likely to upset reviewers mid-round.
Message reviewers whenever you change guidance or a deadline.
After changing review counts, check which submissions are now ready to move.
When you add someone to a reviewer pool, check whether they also need submissions that were sent earlier.
Archive finished rounds instead of deleting them.
