How to Export Submissions from Dapple to CSV

Getting your data out of the platform is quick and simple. Here's a step by step guide on how to export data.

Written by Oz Osbaldeston

To export submissions from Dapple, open the Submissions view, apply any filters you need, then click More → Export Query. Dapple generates a CSV in the background and notifies you when it's ready to download. Exports include every form-field column for the submissions in your current filtered view. Admin-permission users only.

Why export?

  • Run deeper analysis in spreadsheet tools — Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers.

  • Share submission data with stakeholders who don't have Dapple access.

  • Generate custom reports for board members, funders, or partners.

  • Keep an offline backup of your submission data.

  • Import into other tools — CRMs, mailing-list platforms, archive systems.

Who can export?

Admin-permission users only. Members and Reviewers can't generate exports. If you need an export but don't have Admin permission, ask an Admin to run it for you.

How to export

  1. Open the Submissions view.

  2. Apply filters to narrow to the submissions you want — by project, status, stage, tag, score, assignee, received date, or any combination.

  3. Click More in the page interface.

  4. Choose Export Query.

  5. Dapple generates the CSV in the background. You can keep working — the export doesn't block you.

  6. When the export is ready, you'll get a notification in the bell icon.

  7. Click the notification to download the CSV.

What's in the export?

The CSV contains every form-field column from every submission in your filtered view. If you've filtered across multiple projects, the CSV merges columns — fields that exist on one project but not another show empty for the projects that don't use them.

Tips for opening the CSV

  • Open in Excel, Google Sheets, Numbers, or any text editor.

  • If your data uses commas (e.g. names like 'Smith, Sarah') the CSV escapes them automatically — don't manually find/replace.

  • If date columns look odd, format the column as Date in your spreadsheet tool.

  • For very large exports, allow a few minutes between requesting and download.

FAQs

Question

Answer

Can any user export?

No — Admin permission only.

What's included?

Every form-field column across the projects in your filtered view, for every submission in the view.

Can I export without filters?

Yes — leaving filters empty exports every submission visible on the page.

What format is the export?

CSV. You can open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or any text editor.

Is there a row limit?

No formal limit, but very large exports may take longer. Filter to your target dataset first.

Can I re-run an old export?

No — each export is generated fresh. Apply the same filters and run again.

Best practice

  • Filter before exporting — exporting your entire workspace is rarely what you actually want.

  • Run a small test export first when working with sensitive data, to confirm columns look right.

  • Store exports securely — they often contain creator personal data and should be treated as such.

  • Use Saved Views to make the same export repeatable. Save the filter combo as a View, then export.
