An award in Dapple is the amount of money a successful submission receives from a fund. There are four ways to award:
From one submission's Award tab.
In bulk from the Submissions list.
In bulk from the Stages board.
Directly from the Funding page
Every route opens the same Award funds dialog. In it, you choose the fund, set the amounts and see a live total of what's left. Dapple won't let awards take a fund over its total. Applicants aren't told automatically — you message them when you're ready.
What are the four ways to award funds in Dapple?
Where you start | How | Best for |
A submission's Award tab | Open the submission → Award tab → Add award | One submission, or a late award |
Submissions list | Tick submissions → With selected → Award funds | A filtered group of submissions in the same stage |
Stages board | Select the submissions in a stage → Award funds | Everyone who has reached a stage, such as Shortlisted |
The Funding page | Funding → open the fund → Award more → choose submissions → Next | Starting from the money, or finding applicants by name or email |
You need Funding switched on and at least one fund for the project before you can award.
How do I award funds to one submission?
Use the submission's Award tab when you're awarding one applicant, or adding a late award after the main cohort.
Open the submission.
Click the Award tab. If nothing has been awarded yet, you'll see "No award yet".
Click Add award.
In the Award funds dialog, choose the Fund and enter the amount.
Select Same for everyone - in this case this will apply to just a single awardee.
Click the Award funds button to confirm.
The award then shows on the Award tab with its amount and fund — for example, "£500 from Materials Grant".
From here you can:
Schedule payments — split the award into payments with due dates.
Change award — increase or reduce it, or record money returned.
Add notes — keep internal notes on the award.
Check the bar underneath, which shows how much is Paid, Scheduled, not paid and Not scheduled.
How do I award funds in bulk from the Submissions list?
Use the Submissions list to award a group of submissions you've filtered, such as everything in a particular stage.
Click Submissions in the sidebar.
Filter to the project and the stage you're awarding.
Tick the submissions you want to award, or tick the box in the header row to select them all.
Click With selected. The number shows how many you've ticked.
Choose Award funds.
In the Award funds dialog, choose the fund and set the amounts.
Click Award [number] submissions.
All the submissions you select must be in the same stage, and be awardable from the same fund. Filter by project and stage before you select. See How to Filter Submissions in Dapple.
Once at the dialog screen, you can then select how you want to award the funds. If splitting the total equally, you will the see the amount divided across all awardees.
How do I award funds in bulk from the Stages board?
Use the Stages board to award everyone who has reached a stage in one go — for example, every submission in Shortlisted or Awarded.
Click Stages in the sidebar and choose the project.
Find the stage column that holds your successful submissions.
Select the small 3 dots next to the number of submissions in that stage.
Choose Award funds.
In the Award funds dialog, choose the fund and set the amounts.
This works well when your stages mirror your decisions. Move your successful submissions into one stage first, then award the whole stage. See How to Bulk-Move Submissions Between Stages in Dapple.
How do I award funds from the Funding page?
Start from the fund when you're thinking about the money first, or when you want to find applicants by name or email.
Click Funding in the sidebar.
Click the fund. Its page opens with the Fund total, Awarded, Paid and Left to award.
On the Awards tab, click Award more.
In Choose submissions to award, search by name or email, then tick the submissions to award. Only submissions from the fund's project are listed.
Click Next.
In the Award funds dialog, set the amounts.
Click Award [number] submissions.
Submissions that already have an award from this fund are marked Awarded in the list. A submission can have only one award from each fund. To give it more, open its Award tab and use Change award.
How do I set award amounts in the Award funds dialog?
Under Amounts, choose how to fill in each submission's amount. Every row stays editable, so you can adjust any one amount before you confirm.
Option | What it does | Use it when |
Amount requested | Fills each row with the amount the applicant requested on their form | Applicants ask for a specific sum |
Same for everyone | Gives every selected submission the amount you enter in Amount each | Every grant is a fixed value, such as £2,000 |
Split a total equally | Divides a total you enter equally across the selected submissions | You have a set pot to share evenly |
The bar at the bottom shows what you're awarding against the fund — for example, "Awarding £4,000 of £20,000 in the fund · £1,000 left to award". The award button shows how many submissions you're awarding, such as Award 2 submissions. It stays greyed out until every row has an amount.
What stops me overspending a fund?
No overspending. Awards in a fund can't add up to more than the fund's total. The Fund list shows what's left in each fund, such as "Materials Grant · £1,000 left to award".
One award per fund. A submission can have awards from several funds, but only one from each. To give more from the same fund, use Change award.
One currency. Every award is in the fund's currency. There's no conversion.
Dapple checks these rules on its servers, so they apply in the app, through the API and through AI assistants.
Do applicants find out automatically when they're awarded?
No. Applicants aren't told automatically but you have the option of messaging them separately when you're ready. Use your message templates and the /AwardAmount merge tag to tell each applicant their amount.
Awards are also hidden from applicants by default. To show applicants their award and payment schedule in their Applicant Dashboard, click on the Project Settings > Funding and click Show award and payment schedule to applicants.
What happens to an award if a submission changes stage?
The award stays where it is. If a submission with an award moves out of an awarded stage, Dapple asks: "This submission has an award of £X. Keep it or cancel it?" You can only cancel an award while no money has gone out.
Best practice
Move successful submissions into one stage first, then award the whole stage from the Stages board or Submissions List.
Filter the Submissions list by project and stage before you tick anything.
Use Funding section or manually add from inside a submission for late additions.
If you plan to use Amount requested, make sure your form asks applicants how much they're requesting.
Check the live total before you confirm.
Schedule payments straight after awarding, while the cohort is fresh.
Message applicants only once awards are final.
