Adding a reviewer to a submission in Dapple sends that submission to a named reviewer to score, vote or comment on. You can add reviewers to one submission, to a filtered batch from the submissions list, to a whole stage from the stages board, or automatically through a reviewer pool. You need two things first: a reviewer set up as a user, and a review round to send the submission to. You can add more reviewers to a submission at any point.
What do I need before I can add reviewers to a submission?
You need a reviewer and a review round.
Requirement | What it is | Where to set it up |
A reviewer | A person added to Dapple as a user with reviewer permission. Reviewers can review but can’t access the dashboard. | |
A review round | The review settings: name, guidance, criteria, deadlines and notifications. |
A review round belongs to a stage. Sending a submission to a round moves it into that stage automatically.
Should I send submissions to reviewers automatically or manually?
Choose in the Reviewers step when you create the round. This is step 2 of 6 in the review round wizard.
Option | What happens | Best for |
Automatic — Chosen reviewers | Every submission that reaches the stage goes to the same reviewers you pick in the Reviewer pool. | Small panels where everyone reviews everything and it's automated. |
Automatic — Share them out | Submissions are divided equally between the members of the Reviewer pool. | Large volumes where a "divide and conquer" approach is taken. Submissions are automatically shared among a pool. |
Manual | Nothing is automated. So you choose the submissions and then add selected reviewers to those submissions | Choosing specific reviewers or groups of reviewers to manually assign to submissions. |
For automatic sending, switch on Send automatically when a submission reaches this stage, choose who should receive submissions, then click + Add reviewer to build the pool.
For manual sending, create the round without automation. Switch Send automatically when a submission reaches this stage off and this will then remove the ability to create a reviewer pool.
How do I add reviewers to a single submission?
Use the side panel inside the submission.
Open the submission.
In the Assigned Reviewers panel on the right, click Send to Reviewers. It shows “Not sent” until reviewers are added.
Choose the review round.
Tick the reviewers you want.
Click Send to reviewers.
How do I add reviewers to several submissions at once?
Select submissions in the submissions list, then send them together.
Go to Submissions in the left-hand menu.
Use Project and Filters to narrow the list to the submissions you want.
Tick the submissions, or tick the box in the table header to select them all.
Click With selected, then Send to Reviewers.
Choose a review round and click Next. Every round in the project is listed.
Tick the reviewers you want. Use Search reviewers… to find someone, or Select all to add everyone.
Click Send to reviewers.
If any selected submissions aren’t in the round’s stage yet, Dapple tells you before you send. Sending moves them there automatically. To pick a different round, click Choose a different round.
How do I split submissions between different reviewers?
Filter the list, send each batch to its own reviewers, then repeat with the next filter.
Filter the submissions list, for example by tag or category.
Select the filtered submissions and click With selected → Send to Reviewers.
Choose the round and tick only the reviewers who should review this batch.
Click Send to those selected reviewers.
Change the filter and repeat for the next set of reviewers.
How do I add reviewers to every submission in a stage?
Use the stages board.
Go to Stages in the left-hand menu.
Click the ••• menu at the top of the stage.
Choose Assign to Reviewers.
Under “Send all submissions to”, choose the review round.
Then select the reviewers you want to assign to these submissions
This will then send all the submissions in this stage to the selected reviewers
Can I add more reviewers to a submission later?
Yes. Repeat any of the methods above at any point. The submission’s reviewers update in the Reviewers column of the submissions list. You can also do this individually from the submissions list view by using the small plus button next to the reviewer details.
Best practice for assigning reviewers
Using the automations are best for continuous submissions automatically routed to reviewers. This results in a constant drip feeding of submissions to reviewers rather than all at once.
Using manual assignment is best used when all the submissions have been received and you want to send to multiple reviewers in one go.
Use Share them out option for large volumes so no reviewer is overloaded.
Create the round without automation if you want to choose reviewers yourself.
Filter first, then select. It’s the fastest way to match batches to the right reviewers.
Check the Reviewers column afterwards to confirm everyone is assigned. See the Assigned Reviewers toggle in Field Visibility if it isn’t showing.
