How to Make a Team Member the Owner of a Submission in Dapple

Make a team member the owner of a submission so everyone knows who's responsible for it, one at a time, in bulk or automatically.

Written by Oz Osbaldeston

The owner is the team member responsible for a submission. To set one, open the submission and choose a team member in the Owner field. To set the owner of several submissions at once, tick them in the submissions list and choose With selected → Set owner. The new owner is notified straight away.

What does the owner of a submission do?

  • The owner is the person on your team responsible for managing the submission.

  • They get a notification when they become the owner, and can be @-mentioned in comments.

  • The owner shows in the Owner column of the submissions list and on cards in the Stages board. Submissions without one show No owner.

  • Being the owner doesn't make someone a reviewer. See Can an Admin or Team Member Also Be a Reviewer?

How do I set the owner of one submission?

  1. Open the submission.

  2. Find the Owner field.

  3. Click it, search for the team member and select them.

You'll see Owner updated. To change the owner, pick someone else. To remove the owner, choose No owner.

You can also right-click a submission in the submissions list, or open a card's menu in the Stages board, and choose Set owner.

Why can't I find a team member in the list?

Only members of the team the project belongs to can own its submissions. If someone's missing, check their team membership under Settings → Users.

How do I set the owner of several submissions at once?

  • Submissions list: tick the submissions, then choose With selected → Set owner.

  • Stages board: open the three-dot menu at the top of a stage column and choose Set owner. This sets the owner of every submission in that stage.

Can Dapple set the owner automatically?

Yes. Add the Assign an owner Stage Automation to a stage. When a submission enters that stage, Dapple makes one of these the owner:

  • A Random Team Member: spreads submissions across your team.

  • A Specific Team Member: always the same person.

How do I see the submissions I own?

  • In the left-hand menu, choose Owned by me under Submissions or Stages.

  • Choose No owner to find submissions nobody owns yet.

  • Or filter the submissions list by Owner.

Best practice

  • Set an owner as soon as a submission arrives, or let an Assign an owner automation do it.

  • Change the owner when work is handed over, so the right person is notified.

  • Use A Random Team Member to share the workload fairly.

  • Check No owner regularly so nothing slips through.
